Most of life is handled with contracts. If you want to buy a house, you sign a contract. If you want a credit card, you sign a contract. If you accept a job, you verbally commit to a contract. And in each case, you seek the best deal you can get – the best value, the best interest rate, the best pay and benefits. That’s the basis of contracts – you seek the best deal you can get.
In a covenant, you seek the best for another party. For example - marriage. When you get married, it works best if you seek the greatest good for your spouse and your spouse seeks the best for you. When you start focusing on yourself, the marriage gets rocky. We see this type of covenant relationship all through the Bible. When God deals with people, He does it in covenants - vowing to give us the best of Himself and asking the same in return.
At Traceway, membership is understood as a covenant. We seek the best for you and we pray that you will give your best for the church community.
