"Too often, people assume that along with the role of leader comes the responsibility of
determining what should be done.  They develop aggressive goals...They cast grand visions...
That's not what spiritual leaders do.  Spiritual leaders seek God's will, whether it's for their
church or for their corporation, and then they marshal the people to pursue God's plan."
~
Henry and Richard Blackaby

“Leaders aren't born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard
work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.”
~ Vince Lombardi

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” ~ John F. Kennedy

"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of
the world to shame the strong."
1 Corinthians 1:27

Come, Follow Me
Education has changed.  That is not necessarily good
or bad, but it is simply a statement of fact.  Education
in our time looks a lot different than it did in first
century Israel.

Today, women are a huge part of the school system.
Most of our teachers are women.  Education has come
a long way.

Today, broad knowledge is a goal of the educational
system.  School teaches us to learn as much as we
can about as many subjects as possible; languages,
culture, science, math, history, art and technology are
all integral to modern education.

In ancient times, men were the primary focus of formal
education and they would often only study very few
subjects.  So, we have come a long way.

But there is one major part of ancient education that
has been abandoned -
discipleship.

In first century Israel, students would practically live in
the shadow of their rabbi (teacher).  The student would
often leave his family, leave his village and devote
himself entirely to learning from the life of his teacher.
Therefore, it was not strange for Jesus to tell his
disciples, "Come, follow me."  He was calling them to
the most important aspect of ancient education -
discipleship.

The Leadership Project is an effort to reconnect
contemporary education with the ancient idea of
discipleship.  Participants in the project will have
opportunities for small group learning, specialized
seminars, and one on one mentoring with the
leadership of Traceway Baptist Church.  Further, the
participants will have opportunities not only to learn
from leaders, but they will have opportunities to lead in
a church setting, too.

Due to the nature of discipleship, participation in the
Leadership Project is limited.  Those students who feel
called to Christian ministry will have priority, but all
potential leaders are encouraged to apply.
